The Cost Of The Cross

The Cost Of The Cross

He sat down at the table

With His twelve, the chosen few

Taking bread and wine He said,

“I give my life for you”

He looked among the followers

And knew what each would do

Peter said, “I’m faithful, Lord

I would never deny you”

But Jesus told him what would happen

Before the cock would crow

Three times he would deny he knew

His Saviour, Christ the Lord

As others slept the time away

Among the lovely flowers

Jesus prayed so fervently

To fill him with God’s Power

Then came the sound of hoof  beats

And footsteps in the night

Judas brought the soldiers to Jesus

And He went without a fight

He was spit on, slapped, and His beard pulled out

Humiliated and mocked

A crown of thorns placed on His head

Like a King,  now cruelly defrocked

They took Jesus to Golgotha

Appropriately named the Skull

There between two thieves He would die

As a sacrifice for the world

Is that not how the world is

Those who believe and those who do not

One knows Jesus Christ is Lord

And the other knows not who he mocks

In three days the Lord was raised up

Sin’s curse and debt had been paid

For those who believe in Jesus Christ

Will also rise from the graves

We will be raised like Jesus

A new creation just like Him

Serving forever in His Kingdom

Secured by His power over sin

How can anyone resist Him

Who gave all He had to give

He died as the Perfect sacrifice

Redeeming us from our sin

Glory and honor belong to Christ

May His Name forever be praised

We will bow at His Feet forever

The One through whom we are saved
